What a great blog post!

I love checking in and seeing what lovely toiletries await. My absolute favorite is bliss at the W Hotels b/c the scent of the lotion is so clean and uplifting. (It's become the lotion that I carry in my handbag, too.)

The Aveda shampoo of rosemary and mint is decadent, as well.

I can't wait to find your soaps in the hotels!

Sorry, I love your company but I also love lush! The sales people can be a bit overbearing!--but one step into their fragrant world of bath candy and all my problems just melt away! Their dream cream is my favorite--expensive but well worth the price as it cured me of my eczema!

Those are not Russian soaps. The company is Italian, from Florence, called Santa Maria Novella. The company was started by the Dominican Monks back in 1612 (incorporated). They are one of the oldest pharmacies in existance and that particular soap is called Russa (their 'Russian' soap). They are nice soaps but the best seller we find is their Pomegranete soap. A lovely Italian soap company is Neste Dante. Best regards, Alex, owner of Beauty Safari.

I admittedly get Lush catalogs for inspiration, but that's where I draw the line. I, too, find their products outrageously overpriced and their salespeople overbearing and in a lot of ways, misinformed. When you ask them a question, they're clearly reciting some policy or lesson from a training manual. With that being said, their products are cute, colorful, and kitschy, and that's what makes them so attractive. They don't (or rarely) advertise, and seemingly rely on their core customers to do all the advertising for them. Just go to YouTube and you'll find thousands of Lush "hauls." Now that's a page I'm taking from Lush's book!

Hello there!
I was actually searching specifically for this soap when I stumbled upon your blog. The smells are delicious, and much more subtle when you're all washed and clean. Also the back side of these enormous soaps are ribbed, so it's almost like a massage bar! I re-use the tins when I have little presents for friends.

Hope you will have a brilliant time. Only one problem, it's winter here. Take some water proofs. It shouldn't be too cold where you are going, but it can rain quite a bit in November. Have fun and enjoy!

Royal Jelly is a special honey brew also called Propolis, with which bees feed their larvae.
It's supposed to be and enriched sort of honey , common in alternative medicine as an immunity enhancer.

Portuguese soaps were quite exceptional,classical simple fragrant concoctions. Some of the brands you depicted were traditional old houses that were almost going bankrupt (like Ach. Brito from Oporto). Then a new generation decided to change their packaging... and voilá! reborn like the phenix, in an international market they never had before!
